Why there is no flat rate
A single bathroom in one building and a shopping centre with dozens of surfaces are very different pieces of work, so a one-size-fits-all price would either overcharge the small job or underserve the large one. A proper quote reflects the time on site, the number of results, the reporting involved and the practicalities of getting the testing done. The good news is that the factors are predictable, which is exactly what lets our online quote flow show you a firm figure for your site on the spot.
The main factors that drive the price
- Number of test locations. This is usually the biggest single factor. Each location tested is a distinct result that has to be measured carefully and written up. More surfaces, or more separate areas within a surface, means more time and a larger report.
- Size and layout of the site. A compact tenancy is quicker to work through than a sprawling campus with multiple buildings and levels. Travel between areas adds up.
- Test method required. Wet pendulum testing and dry floor friction testing suit different surfaces, and some sites need both across different areas. The mix affects the time on site. Our guide to wet pendulum versus dry floor friction testing explains which is which.
- Access and timing. Testing that has to happen after hours, overnight, or in short windows around trading or operations takes more coordination than a straightforward daytime visit. Sites with security escorts, inductions or restricted areas add time too.
- Location and travel. Where the site sits relative to our base, and whether it is metropolitan or further out, affects mobilisation.
- Reporting depth. A results table is quick to produce. A report that interprets each result against HB 198:2014 guidance, ranks findings by risk and sets out rectification options takes more work, and it is the part that actually helps you act.
- Retesting. If you want surfaces retested after rectification to document the improvement, that is a separate, usually smaller, follow-up visit.
How to get an accurate quote fast
The fastest way is our online quote and booking flow: add the areas you would like tested and choose a preferred time, and you will see a fixed quote in about a minute, with the option to book on the spot. If you would rather talk it through first, the details that help us most are:
- The type of facility and roughly how large it is
- Which areas concern you, or a rough count of surfaces you want tested
- The floor types involved, such as tiles, vinyl, concrete or timber
- Whether the areas get wet in use, which points to the right test method
- Any access constraints, such as trading hours, after-hours requirements or inductions
- The reason for testing, for example due diligence, a refurbishment, an insurer request or a post-incident review
Not sure how many locations you need? That is part of what we help with. Sensible test scoping targets the areas where people actually walk and where risk concentrates, rather than testing everything or guessing.
Value beyond the invoice
The cheapest slip test is not much of a saving if the report is a table of numbers you cannot act on. Under Australian work health and safety duties, those in control of a workplace or public premises are expected to manage slip risk so far as is reasonably practicable, and a documented testing history is strong evidence of due diligence if an incident ever leads to a claim. A report that interprets your results and tells you what to do next is what turns a compliance cost into genuine risk management. That is the standard every Slip Audit report is built to.
